Kunaal Roy Kapur (Hindi: कुणाल राय कपूर) is an Indian film actor and director.

Early life and education

Born in Mumbai, Kunaal Kapur did his schooling from G. D. Somani Memorial School, in Cuffe Parade, Mumbai and subsequently a drop out from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. His paternal grandparents hailed from Lahore where they own a store, 'Roy Brothers', an anglicized form of Ray, though their surname was Kapur, Roy too got attached with their surname, over time. Kunaal started acting in in children's theatre, at the age of 13. He also worked as an assistant photographer under professional photography under photographer-turned-actor Boman Irani[2]

Career

Kapur started his acting career with the Indian soap, Just Mohabbat (2000), which aired on Sony TV. [3] He then appeared in a cameo role in the 2007 film, Loins of Punjab Presents opposite Shabana Azmi and Ishita Sharma. He was also seen in Panga Naa Lo.

He is also a theatre director. In 2006 directed a comedy, “The President Is Coming”. [4] He then adapted the play into film, to make his directorial debut with the mockumentary film, The President Is Coming (2009), starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Shernaz Patel, which opened to mixed reviews [5], and was declared a "Semi-Hit".

Kunaal Roy Kapur also appeared in 6 episodes of Mumbai Calling as a "Call Centre Operator". He has also appeared in Aamir Khan Productions' Delhi Belly[2] alongside Imran Khan and Vir Das.

Personal life

His older brother Siddharth Roy Kapur is the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures and his younger brother Aditya Roy Kapur is also an actor, who has appeared in such films as Action Replayy and Guzaarish. Kunaal is married to Shayonti, an interior designer, the couple has two kids and live in Mumbai. [1]
